Nu Chika Enabuka was founded by Ethiopian visual artists Hamere Mulugeta and Yoseph Weldeamanuel after the birth of their first daughter. Inspired by their desire to create a nurturing environment for their child, they introduced natural, hands-on activities into her daily routine. This approach quickly gained popularity among neighbors, who began sending their children to participate. What began as a simple home initiative evolved into a kindergarten summer camp.
As Hamere and Yoseph continued to prioritize a healthy, balanced diet for their family, emphasizing their grandparents’ organic and wholesome meals, they cultivated their own garden and began producing organic food, including eggs. Their commitment to organic farming and sustainability caught the attention of friends and relatives, prompting them to consider expanding their efforts into a business.
Over time, Nu Chika Enabuka grew into a renowned project, blending artistic creativity with a commitment to healthy living and sustainable practices.
From 2021 to 2023, we hosted three special family festivals, attracting over 60,000 attendees. These festivals offered children the opportunity to play and learn traditional childhood games alongside their parents. The events featured musical performances, dance, and spectacular circus acts, while parents shared their cultural heritage and childhood games with their children. This annual festival has become a highly anticipated event that many eagerly look forward to each year.
Hosting the Nu Chika Enabuka Festival at Meskel Square in Addis Ababa is significant due to its central and iconic location, making it accessible to a diverse audience.
As a prominent cultural hub, Meskel Square adds prestige and visibility to the event, attracting media attention and public interest. Its large capacity allows for extensive community engagement, fostering social bonds and cultural connections. The festival showcases Ethiopian cultural heritage, while also providing economic benefits to the local community. Overall, Meskel Square enhances the festival’s impact and reach, aligning perfectly with Nu Chika Enabuka’s mission.
Nu Chika Enabuka is expanding to the USA to connect with the Ethiopian diaspora and local communities. We aim to create scaled recreational centers focused on nature, hosting family-friendly mud and clay festivals to foster creativity and cultural connection. Our centers will provide educational, nature-inspired spaces to promote environmental awareness, along with hobby and stress relief activities for adults, including support for autism and therapeutic courses.
